welcom to America today with a new article about Hyundai recalls 31,440 Genesis vehicles for fuel pump issue: Here’s which cars are affected

Hyundai is recalling more than 30,000 Genesis vehicles due to a potentially deadly crash hazard with certain models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

Federal safety regulators published the recall Tuesday after learning the fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power.

A shutdown of the fuel pump can restrict fuel flow to the engine causing sudden reduction or loss of vehicle power, increasing the risk of a crash, federal safety regulators wrote.

So far, NHTSA reported, Hyundai has had no reports of injuries or deaths related to the issue.

Hyundai Genesis Fuel Pump Recall

In 2015, Hyundai recalled 145,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada for a defect that could cause the engine to stall. At the time, Hyundai and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) both said they were not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the stalling. The recall was launched because the engines in the affected vehicles may have debris left from manufacturing that could restrict oil flow to the connecting rod bearings.

This metal debris left during manufacturing may not have been properly removed during routine engine cleaning at the factory. This could restrict oil flow to the connecting rod bearings, which would cause light knocking at the beginning while driving, and as it worsens, the engine could stall resulting in a crash. This recall affected the 2013-14 Sonata and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the spring of 2017, Hyundai then extended the recall to a further 572,000 vehicles after the initial recall inspections showed that the engine replacements were not effective. This means that the new engines used in the recalled 2013-14 Sonatas and Santa Fe Sports were also at risk of the same issue, prompting the additional recall. This action integrates with the initial recall involving a similar defect in the 2011-14 Hyundai Sonata.
