Season three, which is divided into two parts comprised of four episodes each, premieres on Netflix this Thursday.

In case you need a refresher on what happened last season, Business Insider has you covered with the most pertinent information to keep in mind before diving into the new batch of episodes.

During season two, Queen Charlotte accused Eloise of being Lady Whistledown and gave her three days to confess and be the royal’s ally or she’d ruin the Bridgertons.

Before Eloise could lie to Queen Charlotte, Penelope purposely wrote another scathing issue of Lady Whistledown’s gossip column and revealed that Eloise was associating with political radicals.

In the finale, Eloise noticed the way Penelope gossiped about the other attendees at a party and realized that she was Lady Whistledown.

The bombshell resulted in a heated argument between the two characters, with Eloise feeling betrayed.

Penelope justified writing the scandalous news about Eloise because she felt it was the only way to convince Queen Charlotte that Eloise wasn’t Whistledown.

When did Bridgerton Season 3 start filming?

The gilded doors of Bridgerton Season 3 opened in July 2022; the cast announced the production news with a video nodding toward a beloved Season 2 finale moment.

Bailey, who led Season 2 as the dashing Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, kicks off the clip by doing the hand gesture for 2 and turning it to 3.

Anthony does a similar motion in Season 2, Episode 8 toward love interest Kate Sharma to “Steady” her after a near-tragic fall.

The rest of Bailey’s co-stars follow suit, including Jessie, Andoh, Gemmell, and Thompson.

Finally, Newton pops up to make the 3 sign, only to open a carriage for the final star of the video, Coughlan, who’s gotten a serious style upgrade as Penelope.

“Bridgerton Season 3 filming has officially begun,” she says before turning to Newton and asking, “You coming in?” Fans of Quinn’s Bridgerton books might be particularly excited to see this playful exchange – it’s a nod to Polin’s famously steamy carriage scene from the novel Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

“I cant confirm or deny what’s in [Season 3] and what isn’t… But from what I have heard, people are going to be extremely pleased,” Coughlan told Tudum in May.

The season two finale hinted at Edwina getting a second chance at love outside Mayfair

During the Featherington ball, Edwina encouraged Kate to follow her heart and put herself first.

As Edwina watched Kate and Anthony dance, Queen Charlotte turned to her and said, “Have I yet told you about my nephew? He is a prince and he is available.” Queen Charlotte was referring to Prince Friedrich of Prussia, played by Freddie Stroma on season one of “Bridgerton.” Don’t expect to see Chandran reprise her role as Edwina, though.

The actor hinted at not returning during a season two interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying: “‘Bridgerton’ is a show about the Bridgerton family, and at the end of the day, Edwina is not directly part of that family.

” Chandran confirmed during an interview with The Indian Express that she wouldn’t appear in season three, due to filming a movie.

Shonda Rhimes Explains Why ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 Took So Long — and Whether ‘Queen Charlotte’ Might Return

Season 3 of “Bridgerton” – from executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, and new showrunner, Jess Brownell – represents the show’s first deviation from the order of the books: Quinn’s third novel is “An Offer From a Gentleman,” which focuses on Benedict Bridgerton.

During an interview for a Variety Power of Women cover story, Rhimes says that because of the revelation in the Season 1 finale that Penelope is the writer behind the Lady Whistledown scandal sheet, the series had to speed up the timeline of the story.

Penelope, especially in Coughlan’s winning portrayal of her, has “Really struck a chord,” according to Rhimes.

“We’re really working on the idea of if this is the field we live in, then how do we make the field faster? And so we really are thinking about stuff such as permanent sets and lots, and things like that that will really help us speed the process up.” Rhimes is still planning to adapt all eight “Bridgerton” books, so if the math stays the same, Season 8 of the Netflix show will be premiering in 2034.

Rhimes says, “We are the six who have the creative conversations, and figure out what that means for the future.” “I do have a very specific plan of where we go each season – which one is which,” Rhimes says.

“Because you really have to start seeding in the other siblings, and what’s going on with them, to push them to the next season. We’ve really talked about it through, I think, Season 6 or maybe 7.” Of course, Rhimes herself wrote the “Queen Charlotte” prequel – which premiered on Netflix in May 2023 – and some of its original storytelling might inform how “Bridgerton” could unfold as well.

“We talk about it a lot,” Rhimes says about bringing that story into the “Bridgerton” timeline.
